VISION AND MISSION STATEMENTS
The vision of the Jenkins County Family Enrichment Commission partners is that all children and adults will have access to resources needed to be:
  1. Self-supporting and healthy both physically and mentally
  2. Literate and have the needed job skills specific for this community
  3. Skilled and motivated to be effective, supportive, and nurturing parents
  4. Able to become law biding citizens that further the well-being of all of the community
  5. Able to easily access affordable resources that allow them to be healthy, happy, and self-sufficient.
  6. Able to protect themselves from the success inhibitors that would cause detriment to their family.

The mission of the Family Enrichment Commission is to operate as a countywide organization functioning to provide planning, leadership, coordination, implementation, and overseeing of the following:

  1. Improving the well being of all the members of this community by increasing success inhibitors for all people through the methods and services of prevention, education, and family support.
  2. Collaborative services provided by agencies, governments, service providers, health care providers and associates, businesses, faith and civic communities, and school systems with community families to better meet their needs.
  3. Contract or spawn services that will create new, improved, affordable, and easily accessible resources for all people that will strengthen, support, and prevent destruction of, or provide early intervention to, all members of this community.

Long-Range Goals

  1. Prevention of child abuse and neglect
  2. Increasing high school graduation rates and school success

  • Reducing teen pregnancy and substance abuse
  • Increasing adult literacy
  • Poviding better health care for all citizens

We have a late clinic on Tuesday's until 6:00 pm. This is by appointment only.

We have 2 Nurse Practioner's that are employed by our District who work at our clinic - about once per week.

 
Services Provided be the Jenkins County Health Department


Adult Health

  • Vision and hearing Screenings
  • Sickle Cell Screenings and Counseling
  • Hemoglobins, Blood Sugar Checks and Blood test for Marriage.
  • Urinalysis
  • Hypertension/SHAPP Programs
    (Stroke/Heart attack Prevention Program)--provides screenings,
    monitoring and management of high-risk groups in order to reduce the incidence of stroke, heart attack and end renal disease.

Child Health

  • Immunizations
  • Health Checks
  • Lead assessments, Scoliosis Screens
  • Children's Medical Service referrals for children with handicaps.
  • Hearing, Vision and Dental Screenings
  • School Health
  • Child tracking and newborn follow-up
  • Infant mortality investigation and counseling

Communicable Disease Control

  • HIV Counseling and Screening
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases-screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases are provided. When active cases are identified, follow-up is made with partner contacts.
  • Tuberculosis Control--provided diagnostic, preventive and curative services to patients with TB.

Environment Health

  • Injury Control--emphasizes prevention of death of children ages 1 to 9.
  • Personal Care Homes--for clients needing only broad supervision.
  • Institutional Health
  • Nuisance Compliance
  • On-Site Sewage Management Systems and Individual Water Samples.
  • Rabies Control
  • Food Service Programs and Tourist Courts inspections.
  • Lead Poisoning and Radiation Monitoring.

Home Visiting

  • Home visits are made to Newborn infants, elderly, the handicapped, and cases of communicable diseases such as TB. Clients delinquent from clinics are also home visited as necessary.

Lab Services

  • The following lab tests are performed:  hematocrit, urinalysis, for sugar and albumin, pregnancy tests, sickle cell testing, venereal disease screening through blood tests andcultures, pap smears, sputum cultures for TB, Hepatitis B testing, rubella titer testing, stool cultures for parasites and bacteria, and HIV antibody screening.

Senior Health

  • Homemaker Aide Services: The Homemaker Aide works exclusively with Senior Citizens (60+) and assisting them with light household services.

Vital Records

  • All birth and death certificates of only Jenkins County births are recorded and retained at the health department.

WIC Program (Women, Infants, and Children)

  • A nutritional assessment, weight and height examination and hemoglobin screening is provided so that women can receive WIC Coupons for formula, if eligible.

Women's Health

  • Family Planning--to provide comprehensive contraceptive services.
  • Breast Test & More--provides complete physical exams, pap smears, and referrals for mammograms for women ages 50 and older who meet income eligibility and are not on Medicaid.
  • Cancer Screening--provides cervical pap scears and performs and teaches breast examinations.
  • Pregnancy testing and Prenatal Clinics--provides WIC services during pregnancy. Presumptive Eligibility (Medicaid) is also available for pregnant women.
  • Prenatal Case Management provides individual case assessments of prenatals with referrals to appropiate resources. Moniotrs prenatals and infants during the first year of life.

Medicaid Services

  • Right From the Start Medicaid (RSM)--serves prenatals, infants and children up to age 19.
All Services are provided and performed by a Registered Nurse, LPN, and a Nurse Practitioner. These services are for all Jenkins County residents if all other eligibility requirements are met.
